About The Artist:

Born in 1952 in the Caribbean on the former British colony of St. Vincent and the Grenadines. In 1967, at the age of 15 years old Franklyn move to New York City.   After High School, Franklyn was award a scholarship to The Juilliard School of Dance, Drama, and Music located in New York City.

The scholarship was "bestowed" by well-known actor John Houseman, and Franklyn studied with Mr.Houseman for a period of time. Franklyn graduated from Juilliard in 1974 with both a B.F.A and M.F.A in theatre arts.

He pursued a successful career in acting, winning accolades for his work on both stage and screen.  Franklyn was known for his mastery of representational roles in works of Shakespearean; which included Romeo and Juliet, Hamlet and King Lear in the New York theatre. Franklyn's film credits included The Onion Field, Southern Comfort and Star Trek the motion picture.

His Television appearances include Trial of the Moke, Hill Street Blues, Wise Guys and Growing Pains. Franklyn was a regular cast member on the situation comedy’s Silver Spoons and Amen until his untimely death on May 14,1990.

In tandem with his acting career, Franklyn since the age of six maintained an active interest in painting.  Early in his career, he studied with the colorist and landscape artist Ian Robertson and the West Indian artist, O. D. Brisbane.  Later, after he moved from

St. Vincent to New York City he studied with Ron Mellman of the Brooklyn Museum.

Franklyn’s work, in acrylics, oil, pen and ink, was largely inspired by his childhood surroundings.  His love of vibrant color can be traced to the brilliant lush colors of St Vincent’s natural environment.  Villa Bay St. Vincent was also home to the Carib Indians, who created carvings on the rocks by the ocean.

Franklyn had a lifelong fascination with these carving, as a child he would trace the faces, composed of lines, with pieces of chalk.  People were always the subject of Franklyn’s work, images with a tribal influence initiated by his association with the art and tribes of the Carib Indians.

"The Caribs had immense influence in my life, even before I saw Picasso’s work I was influenced by their art,” states Seales.

Franklyn then decided to shift the focus of his professional life from acting to the visual arts was spurred by his pursuit of his vision of the “Total Artist”.

Franklyn Seales’s has amassed some twenty years worth of original artwork, a portion of which was first introduced to the public, at the Red 44 Art expo in New York City in 1989.  The reaming works of his artwork is now available at.
